Researchers at an optics laboratory in France have developed a system of spatial light modulation, which can make light beams self-bend by superimposing a pattern on a laser beam. This could dramatically improve the way surgeons perform cursive incisions and enable them to navigate or avoid specific tissues and regions with much greater precision.
