After a 20 year hiatus director and cinematographer Ron Fricke (Koyaanisqatsi, Baraka) has returned with visually compelling Samara, (Sanskrit for “the ever turning wheel of life”) which addresses the elusive interconnected thread that runs through our lives. Filmed over a period of five years and in twenty-five countries, Samsara transports us through sacred lands, disaster zones, natural wonders and industrial sites. Fricke subverts our expectations of a traditional documentary by denying the viewer dialogue and explanatory text and instead encourages our inner interpretations with music that unites the ancient and contemporary.
